Sociology Blogger Scoops The New York Times

Back in 2008, I wrote about the New York Parking Violations Bureau – particularly their willingness to haggle. Get a ticket and don’t like the high number on the fine, no problem. They’ll offer you a one-third discount. (The blog post is here).

Today, the New York Times finally breaks the story on page one, above the fold.

I love your headline – "Sociology Blogger Scoops the Times" – very cute. With trends in media these days and continuing decline of the Times as a credible source, you might just as well put "__________ scoops NYT" – and fill in any intelligent citizen with a laptop.

Keep smilin,

Agreed, great post title! And congrats.

Regarding NYTimes content quality, I don't know if I'm just paying more attention recently or if they're really going downhill, but it's been increasingly disappointing.

Wow -- the Times is taking it on the chin right and left (brandsinger and Eszter). I thought the Gray Lady looked worse mostly because I was reading all these bloggers who picked up on her every lapse (ditto for WaPo) -- things I mostly wouldn't have noticed in the pre-blog era.

That's a good point, Jay, and I suspect that explains it for a lot of people. That said, I think I'm mainly referring to my own take on their content and not so much commentary by others. Then again, who knows, it's hard to keep track of such things.

Excellent Article! Thanks very much for the info, and I will be writing my own (admittedly simplified) article on this shortly. As for my professional works, I will be taking your advice and "standing on the shoulders of giants," so to speak.
